Complying with measures for environmental protection is secured through an unequivocal distribution of tasks and regulation of responsibilities that extends from the board of directors down to the individual employee. Our environmental protection representatives play a consultative role guaranteeing environmentally friendly processes and the avoidance of operational disturbances. A report is sent to the board each month on these issues.

These measures are supported by a company-internal information system (intranet) that provides our employees with information on environmental protection requirements, company environment regulations and environmental data.
It goes without saying that our production, supply and disposal systems—all of which comply with the German federal law for the protection against emissions—correspond to state-of-the-art technical developments. This ensures that any consequences for the environment in terms of air and water pollution are kept to a minimum. The main focus of our work today centres around environmental protection as an integral part of production.
On the one hand, this means, for instance, that the power station uses low-sulphur fuels instead of filtering out such hazardous air pollutants using complex desulphurisation units. This means that we are continually optimising the internal water and paper cycle for our production units. These measures also help to save energy and preserve raw materials. This guarantees the effective control of resource-economic production methods, ensuring that all production units are operated on the basis of defined consumption ratios, thus allowing wholescale environmental control by the company.
Due to the exposed location of our factories, we have devised a site safety programme in cooperation with the authorities and communities. Among other things, this provides for ongoing control of noise emissions in the vicinity of the factories using a large number of fixed emission space points. In order to comply with wide-ranging requirements for noise reduction, comprehensive acoustic bonification has been carried out, so that these days one speaks of "whispering factories". This makes for the harmonious existence of housing and production units.
To sum up: for ZANDERS, environmental protection is not just an obvious matter of responsibility; it is also part and parcel of a company management policy dedicated to the environment. Intelligent measures for protecting the environment are used as competitive advantages. Another improvement to our range of services is planned in that we intend to meet the needs of environmental protection, job safety and quality in combined form through process-oriented management.
