When using various paper grades, there are sometimes practical problems encountered even by professional users.
This latest tip can help to prevent problems. The closed surface of high-gloss papers can give rise to the subjective impression that they are difficult to print. You may be wary of poor ink absorption or a generally restless printed image. If such results do occur, pay close attention to the water supply.
High printing speeds and low ink consumption, because of a surface that is not very porous, cause the fountain solution to form an emulsion with the printing ink. This has a negative imapct on the ink's drying properties.
If there is too much water, it cannot penetrate the paper quickly enough even in the unprinted areas of the preceding printing unit. As a consequence, ink absorption in the following printing unit can be impaired by a film of water.
In such cases, reduce the water quantity until the ink starts to smear (approach the smear limit). Then adjust to the optimal quantity by slowly increasing the water supply again until a flawless image is obtained.
