Tradition and modern spirit – two opposing worlds? What is normally difficult to bring in line, is all under one roof at M-real Zanders GmbH’s Reflex Mill. Although the mill celebrates its 150th anniversary on 4 November 2007, and thus looks back on a long history, words like “old-fashioned” and “outmoded” are out of place there. This once again proved to be true when a “family day” took place on 8 September 2007. Former and current employees came together on this day to a cheerful and entertaining celebration.
It was already in the 16th century, when Dueren became a city of papermakers. Over the years, the high quality soft water of the river Rur together with the location in the centre of Europe attracted more and more paper mills as well as suppliers to settle. Felix Heinrich Schoeller found a suitable location in Dueren, too, where he founded the paper mill Reflex in 1857. Soon, the name Reflex became a synonym for excellent fine papers – a status the mill has maintained until today.
In the year 1965 the company J.W. Zanders took over Reflex Mill. Since 2001 the Finnish corporate group M-real is the new majority shareholder. With 14,000 employees, agencies in more than 70 countries, and 25 production locations in nine European countries, M-real belongs to Europe’s leading paper and board manufacturers.
Thanks to substantial modernisation of the technical facilities as well as the employees’ permanent commitment, even to this very day the mill is able to meet the requirement of the modern market. After all, besides traditional stationery papers like Zanders Classic or Zanders Gohrsmühle, also the carbonless paper Zanders autocopy, the silverpapers range for digital printing, and papers for modern design applications like Zanders Spectral or Zanders ZETA belong to its products. Additionally, the established range is being permanently improved and new innovative paper brands are developed.
That way, Reflex Mill sees to it that also in the future its clients will benefit from the long experience in connection with modern structures, and can find just the right paper for their special demands. To thank all the employees, who contributed with their exceptional dedication to the success of the mill, the mill management invited to a pleasurable family day on 8 September 2007. In addition to games and fun for the children, plenty of food and beverages had been prepared for the visitors. Moreover, families and friends were able to get an insight into a paper mill by means of mill tours as well as an exhibition.
