Bergisch Gladbach. Following the presentation of three outstanding art projects, ZANDERS is now featuring the personal icon of the internationally renowned designer Ron Arad as part of its campaign entitled "Icons on ikono". The object selected by the star designer is from his furniture series "The Big Easy". A limited edition of his icon on ikono gloss can be obtained from ZANDERS in the form of a special print. Born in Tel Aviv, designer Ron Arad initially studied architecture, working on a number of prestigious architectural projects, including the New Opera House in Tel Aviv. Now chiefly renowned for his product design, Ron Arad is Professor of Furniture Design at the Royal College of Art in London. His works have been exhibited in some of the world's leading museums and art galleries, such as the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He has also worked as a designer for a number of prestigious companies, among them Alessi, Vitra and Guzzini.
Ron Arad's icon on ikono and his inspiration
The personal icon presented by Ron Arad owes its origins to his design series entitled "The Big Easy". This stylised armchair has several unusual characteristics: it combines the attributes of a comfortable armchair with the aesthetics of a work of art in a distinctly humorous manner, its special steel creating a sense of tension - and of contrast. With its oversize form, "The Big Easy" tempts the viewer to enjoy its delights, yet at the same time it has a repellent effect - this stylised, polished object with its hard, cold steel. His inspiration involves not merely systematic work on a particular subject, but also that "wonderful partner random", according to Ron Arad, which inspires him even more than nature.
Ron Arad's contribution was preceded in the ZANDERS "Icons on ikono" design series by three outstanding works from John Warwicker (Think Tank Tomato), Diana Gromala and Zaha Hadid. ikono is available in the following categories: ikono gloss, ikono silk, ikono silk ivory and ikono matt - and now with an increased grammage range (350 g/m²). Thanks to the excellent properties of the paper, aesthetically perfect printing results can be achieved - to meet even the most stringent requirements.
