Responsibility for mankind and nature
Sustainability is our highest priority. That’s why we are committed to economical, ecological and social responsibility. Our actions reflect our ethical principles and we strive continuously to optimise our processes. We aim to work in harmony with nature as well as meeting the expectations of our customers, staff and other interest groups, and in doing so ensure the success and profitability of our company. Our products are safe for the user and the environment. In manufacturing we use only raw materials from sustainably managed forests.
Contributions to environmental protection at the Gohrsmühle mill
It is our utmost target to continually improve the processes at our works. This is why we operate an integrated management system according to DIN EN ISO 14001 for environmental protection, which has been certified since 2003, to DIN EN ISO 9001 for quality assurance and OHSAS 18001 for occupational safety.
For our papers, we make use of large proportions of cellulose derived from wood stemming from forestry operators certificated by the PEFC and FSC. Our own purification plant makes yet another contribution to environmental protection. Three aerobic systems clarify the waste water. The slurry produced is burned at our own incineration plant on site. We maintain our own power plant at our works which operates on a cogeneration principle. Our production of steam amounts to around 100%, our production of power is around 45%. As we process low-sulphur coal in two boilers, no further desulphurisation is necessary. When coal which is not low in sulphur is used, the exhaust gases are desulphurised before being emitted. All emissions into the atmosphere and water are monitored on a continual basis. By optimising business processes and maintaining an internal waste management system, we have succeeded in reducing the total amount of waste and have considerably improved recycling.
In addition, of course, we also take our neighbours fully into consideration: with our noise-insulation measures we have turned Gohrsmühle into the ‘whispering mill’, which can be seen and not heard.
